This Private Label Rights Survey Went Nuts!

Just a couple days ago, John and I sent out a very short survey to several thousand people. It was asking people how they use Private Label Rights to grow their business, and what kind of questions they had about using Private Label Rights to make serious money online.

Sidebar: If you haven’t yet taken the survey, you can do so here, but be sure to come back and read the rest of this blog post.

John and I could not believe some of the responses we got. Here is one that floored us:

Question: “Which type of Private Label Rights content do you prefer to use to make money online?”

The OVERWHELMING MAJORITY preferred to use complete “turnkey packages” over everything else. For every 1 respondent that preferred to use PLR articles, videos OR products to make money online, there were at least 3 people that preferred to use an entire package to make money.

We had thought that more people would have wanted individual products, articles or videos so they could “piece meal” them into your business. Now we know how to best help you make money with the content!

We also received a LOT of great questions from the survey. We asked people what their #1 question about making money with Private Label Rights was. So, I spent yesterday going through all of the questions and answered some of the most common ones we received…

Then I put it into an easy to read PDF reference file for you, called the PLR Quick Cash FAQ!

How I Buy Private Label Rights Content

I used to find private label rights like everyone else – buy everything in site and then let the turds float to the surface. Seriously, the only rhythm and reason for me buying a PLR package was the balance of my paypal account.

Then I tried a few different PLR membership sites but most of them were heavy on promise, light on content, etc. Finally I got tired of it all and did what Dr. Phil would recommend – ask the expert. So when I hooked up with John and Matt I had to ask – where do you guys get your PLR… cause all I am getting is rejects?

While they wouldn’t give me their source (not enough drinking I guess) Matt and John did tell me some great ways to ensure the PLR package I buy next is quality and not crap.

The first thing they told me was to look at the total package including the sales letter. Instead of just glossing over it, I actually took the time to read it. It makes sense because if it is a good outline or it makes me want to buy then chances are it will make others do the same.

Then they told me to contact the seller and request a sample or a peak inside. Again, you can overdo this, but if you are establishing a relationship with a new seller it might not be a bad idea to ask them to see a part of the package to ensure it is what you are looking for.

So quick recap – 1. Ask the experts who they use to get good quality PLR.

2. Read the sales letter for the product and if it makes you want to buy chances are others will want to as well.

3. If the seller is willing, get a review copy of the PLR package to ensure it contains what you need. Only do this if you’re serious about buying it and having an ongoing relationship with the seller.

My last tip is one for me when it comes to buying PLR is this – look for upper end PLR. Meaning stuff that already has video or audio or both for you along with a kick butt graphics package. That way you can always go down (transcripts, fast action guides, etc) instead of having to invest hours in audio and video production.

Why People Fail with Private Label Rights

I really think the title of this blog should be why people fail in life. The reason? The same reason people fail at PLR is the same reason they fail in life.

People fail because they fail to take action. Seriously, how many times have you had a good idea and then sat on it and done nothing with it. I’ve done it a hundred times at least so you’re not alone.

Remember the free PLR blog? Did you go out and find a free PLR, repurpose it and give it away like I suggested? I doubt it, and you’re not alone.

Look when John and I talked about PLR I didn’t just sit on it – in fact I setup a membership site and repurposed 2 PLR products within a few days of our talk. Why? Because I know to get anything in life you have to … take action.

Here is what I did with both of the PLR products. I read them twice and anytime I had a feeling or something spoke to me I highlighted it. Then at the end of the reports I took what spoke to me and turned the 50 page report into a 10 page no fluff one. And I did it instantly. Seriously, one was at 2:30 in the morning, the other at 8 o’clock at night.

In fact most of the time when desire hits me I stop what I am doing and take action until it is done. Simple I know but a lot of people don’t do it. So here is my suggestion – find a PLR you are interested in, read it over, take out the guts and make it into a no fluff report. Or what about that PLR you wanted to turn into something else? Stop thinking and start … taking action.

Don’t be like me, don’t let PLR stuff collect virtual dust. Stop dreaming, start doing.

PLR Rule of 100,000 (and a Free Gift)

The real hidden value of private label rights content isn’t necessarily the substance of the content – it’s all of the brainpower behind the concepts that are talked about inside of the PLR. Someone else has done the research to find out what sells like hotcakes on the market…it makes it really easy for you. You just need to make sure that the PLR you have is the kind of high quality material that the market demands.

A quick litmus test to determine the popularity of a particular PLR report is to simply search on Google for the title of the report. If you find that Google has over 100,000 search results for the title of the report, then it has become fairly popular in the market and has a very good chance to sell when you start to advertise it (if, of course, you make it unique by following the guidelines I’ve been talking about over the last few days.)

If a PLR report has become widestread, it can mean that the market is saturated with that product…not necessarily a bad sign, but it means that you should try to find a unique angle to use as you re-write your content.

Example: If you have a generic dieting-type weight loss private label rights product that seems high enough quality and you found that the market has an overwhelming amount of people selling it, then you could use the same PLR but add in easy and quick exercises for busy, working moms. It’s just about putting a new spin on old material. It’s what many of the Internet Marketing Gurus do. “There’s nothing new under the sun.”

So, here’s a task for you…especially if you want to start sifting through your private label rights and start taking serious action with it. Sit down for a couple of hours and separate your private label rights content into two folders:

KEEP
DO NOT KEEP

Don’t spend more than 30 seconds evaluating a PLR article, and don’t spend more than 2 minutes evaluating a PLR report. If you feel it provides value and it’s worth selling, keep it. If not, trash it. Be very judgmental and harsh -  you might end up trashing 90% of more of your content (depending on what you’ve purchased in the past).

Then, take the “DO NOT KEEP” folder and trash it. Trust me, this is for the best. Bad content will shine through your writing if it’s there. It’s toxic.

After you do that, you’ll find it a lot easier to start working through the high-quality PLR products that you own. Start re-writing them…I’m going to give you some ideas about how to start selling them for maximum profitability over the next few days. Get ready…

Be sure to comment below to tell me that you’ve trashed all of your old, low-quality Private Label Rights products. I’ll send you a cool, free gift within the next 3 days as a “thank you” for commenting.

True Value of Private Label Rights

The real value of private label rights (PLR) is the brainpower you’re buying. That seems like a vague explanation so I want to make it concrete.

Watch this video on the true value of private label rights.

First, high quality private label rights products are well organized. Someone has spent time organizing and categorizing content. This structure is very valuable. An example is a table of contents in an ebook.

Second, excellent PLR is easy to re-use and re-structure and re-write. When someone else has done a good job with a product, it’s much easier to make that product fresh and brand spanking new.

Third, you want to leverage content and brainpower. You don’t want to have to edit and proofread for lame problems. So, high quality PLR won’t have basic grammar and spelling problems. It’ll be crisp and clean, and ready to exploit.

Here’s a very clear 5 minute video explaining these concepts. This is a “live” example for you. I clearly explain the true value of private label rights so there’s no ambiguity. Anyone can follow along!

Private Label Rights: 6 Reasons Why Most People Fail

Over the last several years online, I’ve gotten smarter and smarter about using Private Label Rights products. But, at the beginning, I made a lot of the “newbie” mistakes that amateur marketers make…

1.) Overinvesting in Private Label Rights. When I first started out, I scooped up a LOT of private label rights products, both free and premium. After a while, I had too many piled up…I got “analysis paralysis” and became overwhelmed by the amount of PLR I had acquired. So, as many newer marketers do, I let them build up…and for a while, that caused me to fail with private label rights.

2.) Underinvesting in Private Label Rights. As I mentioned in my post yesterday, using free private label rights products really slowed down the growth of my business. Even if you invest a small amount in premium PLR, the return on investment will be ten to hundred-fold, provided you find good private label rights content.

3.) Lack of focus. Once I figured out that I should be exploiting the private label rights products that I had let build up, I began to throw up what were essentially virtual malls of content. I had products on every topic under the sun in these little virtual malls…and I did make a few sales. However, the real key is to FOCUS on one single market, dominate it, and then move on to the next one.

4.) Not re-writing the PLR. In addition to throwing up the products on those virtual mall websites, I made the huge mistake of not re-writing the titles of my products and not adding extra “mojo” to the products. This de-valued all of the products…I was underselling myself. I could have made so much more if I made them unique.

5.) Not creating a new e-cover. A lot of PLR products come with digital graphic covers, but most of them flat out suck. Plus, if you’ve re-written the title of your PLR product (as you should!) then you need a new e-cover anyway. It’s well worth the time and money investment.

6.) Not having timelines to use PLR. As I’ve become smarter about exploiting private label rights products, I always have a specific timeline in which I promise to use the PLR, and a specific purpose. Rather than purchasing it for the sake of using it later, or because it’s a “good deal,” I’m looking to implement it into some of my existing marketing funnels, or as their own easy, high-profit funnels.

There’s good news, though…if you invest properly, focus, re-write and set timelines for yourself, using private label rights products can launch your business to the next level. Literally.

Free vs. Premium PLR Products

When I first started out, like many newbie internet marketers, I was really attracted to Free Private Label Rights products. I figured that if I could make a profit by using free PLR products, I would eventually reinvest the profits into premium PLR products and hire out staff to grow the business.

So, I started creating marketing funnels around these free private label rights products…and, as I expected, I did see some sales…

…just not NEARLY as many as I could have.

You see, I did as I planned. I “played” the whole game. I took the profit from those Private Label Rights products and reinvested them into giant marketing systems, advertising, software, and more. Everything an internet business would need to become a super-charged website.

But, my profits didn’t grow. Not one penny. I was crushed.

I had to investigate…

After surveying our prospects, we found out that they REALLY wanted the information that we had to offer, but just not in the *form* that we were offering it.

In other words, they wanted the course to be quick, easy, simple to use, yet comprehensive at the same time. That made it clear to us. We absolutely had to reinvest in premium Private Label Rights.

The “free” PLR just wasn’t cutting it for our customers. We had…

* A higher refund rate
* A lower amount of returning customers
* A lower conversion rate on the sales page
* A less responsive e-mail list

Note: We WERE still making a profit…but we were selling ourselves short. Your profit margin is MUCH, MUCH higher when you use premium PLR products.

Why?

You can start to charge a LOT more for your products. You can combine them into high-end super packages (even DVD sets) and market the bejesus out of them.

Rather than making $500-$1,000 every month on free PLR products, we should have been making $5,000 or more…easily. We stifled the growth of our company simply because we chose not to invest a few dollars in our business – not a smart move.

Don’t do the same in your business. Invest wisely in high-quality Private Label Rights products. (See my previous posts about how to pick out high quality PLR products.)

Free Private Label Rights

Free private label rights will ruin your life…

What I mean is that it’s very easy to find free PLR and free resale rights products. It’s easy to load up your hard drive with a bunch of crap. I’ve seen many people do that again and again.

There are really three huge problems with free private label rights products, especially free articles and free ebooks that have unrestricted rights:

  • Most free PLR is very poor quality
  • Most people never actually use free PLR
  • Most free private label rights are distracting

Most free PLR is just pure junk. It’s very hard to know this ahead of time. You have to download the garbage then sift through it like a gutter rat. It’s really just a complete waste of time and effort.

Most people — not you! — are lazy. The grab all the free resale rights products they can get right all with all the free PLR they can get. It’s like a crazy land grab. This is nothing but a distraction. Again, it’s a waste of time and effort.

Most free PLR will eat up all your free time and energy. I know people who slave over free private label rights products just to “get it right” but they usually give up… the quality of virtually all free content with unrestricted rights is just too low.

Yes, you can find hidden gems. But finding this kind of Kick Butt PLR content can take you hours… if not days. What’s your time worth? Isn’t it smarter just to make a good investment?

Then again, you do have to know how to properly buy PLR. That last thing you want to do is buy a ton of PLR without the right “filters” in place.

Using Free Private Label Rights

Free private rights conjure up the same images to me as Free Clinic. Seriously who uses these things? The good news – not many people. In fact because it is free it has no perceived value to anyone who gets it so 99% of the people who do download it let it collect virtual dust.

In fact that is something to remember about PLR in general – 95% of your competition isn’t because they are paralyzed by fear and inaction like most people who buy PLR are. But this is about Free PLR and what to do with it.

Here is what I would do – use it as a learning tool. Seriously, play around with it. If it is decent, take the meat of the report and repurpose it into something else. If you want to practice turning a report into an audio or a video then this would be a great way to get started. What about breaking the report up and making a blog or autoresponder with it?

Once you do that what is step 2? Give it away. Seriously, back when I was in the military we use to host a monthly free meal of all the base singles. I’d get the task of asking them how they liked the meal and we’d always have one or two people complain about this or that.

My response? We’ll since you didn’t like the meal I’ll give you your money back.

It quickly sunk in that they couldn’t/shouldn’t complain about something they got for free.

So take that report and give it away. Build a list of followers with it, share it with those in need, hell burn it for heat in the winter. This is about the process and the system of repurposing PLR, not to get rich.

Take the free PLR, repurpose it and give it away to others. That’s what I would do with Free PLR.

How to Invest in Private Label Rights

If you want to know how to invest in private label rights then you have to understand a few things very well. It’s not so much about spending money on PLR. Instead, it’s all about planning and smart execution.Let’s explore this…

First, I always tell our coaching students to pay very close attention to how they spend money. You must know why you want to buy private label rights articles or ebooks. You need to have a business need for the PLR you’re buying. If you’re just grabbing PLR because it’s a “steal” you’re burning cash. It’s unlikely you will ever use that content.

Second, you need to know how to buy private label rights and resale rights products. In addition to matching the right products to the right business goal, you need to have a specific set of “filters” to decide if the PLR is a good investment for you, or not. It’s very easy to buy PLR… but it’s very hard to buy PLR that you can exploit within 24 hours and make cash.

Third, you need to change your thinking about private labels so that each product you buy becomes another asset. Specifically, you need to buy your PLR thinking that it is an actual investment and that it can be converted into cash in the short term. If you think it’s going to magically generate cash in 3-4 months when you have time, you’re foolin’ yourself.

Finally, you need to have clear “transformation goals” before buying or investing in private label rights. What I mean is pretty simple. You must know how to take your PLR and convert it before you buy it. Are you going to convert an ebook into an audio file? Are you going to take the audio PLR and convert it into text content? It’s essential to answer this ahead of time. Or, once again, you’ll just burn cash in the hope of future profits from a product you’ll never update or sell.

If you do these things you can make hundreds of dollars per PLR report. And to recap, here’s what I said. I want to be clear:

  • Be sure to have a clear business need ahead of time; don’t get sucked in by a “deal”
  • Be sure to filter out any noise and have clear business objectives (profit goals) ahead of time
  • Think of PLR as an asset and don’t buy unless you have an immediate return on your investment
  • Be sure to have a clear process in mind for exploiting and transforming your PLR ahead of time

If you follow these “rules” then you’ll be able to make $32.78 or more from each and every PLR article like I am able to do. I’ll explain more about that crazy profit trick in the near future.
